I just bought an old (70’s) sony reciever, but the speaker inputs are screws, not plugs…how to connect?

This 1970’s Sony Receiver just has what looks like regular screws, it appears that i am supposed to loop the speaker wire around the screw, then tighten, but i’m having a difficult time, is it because modern speaker wire is too thick? or am i missing something?

The simplest thing is to probably get a spade connector from accessories4less or best buy.
